Dale Rio is a photographic artist whose work delves into themes of mortality, time, and humanity’s connection with nature. Using film and historic photographic processes, she captures the world through "straight" photography and conceptual projects. Her work has been widely exhibited in the U.S. and internationally, residing in private collections and being featured in numerous publications. She holds a BA from Smith College and an MFA from Pratt Institute. Awarded a Fulbright Travel Grant in 1997, she documented rural Sicily. Dale has freelanced, taught, curated, and edited throughout her career. In 2018, she studied the Daguerreotype process at Penland School of Craft and has participated in various artist residencies. She co-founded The Halide Project and founded Lux et Libera.
