Rob Macdonald is a UK-based photographer and educator, known for his passion for black-and-white photography and the darkroom. His work focuses on capturing the world in a square format, a practice he began with his Hasselblad camera during his master's degree. As a documentary photographer, he avoids staged scenarios and manipulation, instead creating images that reflect his perspective of the world, influenced by painting, especially by Barnett Newman, Callum Innes, and the Scottish Colourists. His photographs explore geometric tensions and dynamic compositions. Rob has held solo exhibitions since 2006, including at the Brighton Photo Fringe. He is currently the Head of the Visual Arts Department at Varndean College in Brighton and has exhibited internationally.
