Economic transparency
WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO?
If the Experimental Photo Festival 2025 is a success in terms of participation, each of the 14 area managers will receive 300 euros (+ 50 for food and 50 for festival products) for having worked 4 hours a week for 10 months. According to the minimum wage in Spain, they should be paid 1,640 euros. The directors, the person in charge of production and communication will receive 14,000 euros for having worked 35 hours a week for 12 months, for which they should be paid 18,580 euros each. This means that, on average, the fourteen workers will receive less than the minimum interprofessional wage. If the minimum number of participants to cover the costs (150) is not registered for the festival or the aid from public administrations is not received as requested, the directors will be left with the debt. At our festival 103 people receive compensation (35 artists doing workshops and 15 exhibitions, 14 staff and 40 volunteers) for 150 people who pay to register; for this reason, we can only make a minimum payment to all of them.
Of each registration fee of 180 or 230 euros: 12% goes to the fifty invited artists to cover their expenses; 5% is paid to the spaces for rent; 35% to management, production, communication and graphic design; 5% is spent on the objects that participants receive (bag, program, etc.); 5% on materials used for the workshops; 8% on bank, platform and administration fees; 6% on the workers responsible for areas; 5% on the exhibitions; 3% on streaming for the virtual festival; 3% for the thirty volunteers (who are not paid but are given free festival products, food and workshops) and 16% for various aspects (advertising, website, insurance, technology, touring, transportation, incidentals, meals).
Does the price of 180 euros for a registration seem expensive to you? We have calculated that if we paid all the workers for the hours they dedicate to the festival, the real cost would be 360 euros.
