Dasha Podoltseva & Ailexey Shmurak
Ukraine
An artistic practice positioned between visual arts, graphic design, and urban research, focused on public space, urban paradoxes, practices of reuse, the everyday, and functional shifts within infrastructure. The work unfolds through site-specific installations, graphic projects, and exhibition formats, combining a critical and poetic reflection on the built environment with curatorial, educational, and mediation activities. Trained at the Kyiv Mohyla Academy in academic drawing and painting, further studies were undertaken through international programmes in art, design, and urban studies. The practice also includes the cofounding of a project dedicated to Brutalist mass housing in Ukraine. Projects have been presented in international institutions, galleries, and biennales across Europe and the United States. In 2023, the work (Unwanted) Harvest received First Prize at the International Poster Biennale in Warsaw, followed by the Gold Prize at the International Poster Triennial in Toyama in 2024, marking a significant trajectory within contemporary poster design and visual art.
