Javier Talavera
Spain
A visual artist with a background in contemporary photography and telecommunications engineering, a combination that shapes his methodology and conceptual approach. His practice focuses on the relationship between the body and its representation, revisiting portraiture through open and non fixed notions of identity, often close to anonymity. His projects explore fragility and impermanence, generating tensions between figuration and abstraction, the living and the inert, while questioning the boundaries of representation. His work engages with processes of depersonalisation and image displacement as a way of reflecting on who we are and how we perceive ourselves. His publication Not All Bald Men with Beards Are Javier Talavera has been nominated for Book of the Year in international contexts such as the Arles festival, PHotoESPAÑA, and the Dummy Award in Kassel.
