Lluís Estopiñan
Spain
A visual artist graduated in fine arts by the Massana School, Barcelona, whose practice has developed since the late 1980s across painting, analogue photography, and installation. His work reflects on shifting perceptions of existence, with a particular focus on memory as an essential component of identity. Process plays a central role in his practice, understood as a territory where gesture, time, and experience accumulate. Working with anonymous photographic material such as negatives, vintage prints, and found objects, he manipulates and recontextualises images through techniques including cyanotype, liquid emulsion, and collage, asserting the physical, fragile, and tactile against digital dematerialisation. His work has been exhibited in cities including Paris, Osaka, Kyoto, London, New York, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Manizales, Madrid, and Barcelona, and at festivals such as Panoràmic, the 20/20 Photo Festival in Philadelphia, LensCulture Discoveries, Tbilisi Art Fair, Photopatagonia, the International Image Festival of Manizales, InCadaqués, and Revela’t. The series ReVers received a Special Jury Mention at the LensCulture Art Photography Awards and the BIPA 2019 Award for Best Portfolio, while Disclosed Memory was selected for the Royal Photographic Society’s International Print Exhibition IPA159. Both series were finalists at the Vila Casas Foundation Awards.
