Tania Bakum

Ukraine

An interdisciplinary artist whose practice integrates analogue photography, performance, textiles, mosaic, and alternative printing techniques, often working with found materials and objects carrying their own histories. Her work explores intergenerational trauma, feminism, socially taboo subjects, and the experience of war, operating at the intersection of traditional techniques and experimental processes focused on material destruction and transformation. Her methodology is closely connected to ritual practices and ongoing material research. Her work has been exhibited in Poland, Belgium, Slovakia, Italy, Ukraine, and Austria. She holds a degree in Economics and has studied photography at the Kyiv School of Photography and at the AGORA School in Spain, as well as completing artist development programmes including SKVOT in Kyiv. Alongside her artistic practice, she teaches analogue photography and printing in Poland and Ukraine. In 2023, she received support from UNICEF and the Institute of Urban Culture for workshops in Gdańsk, and, in 2024, she was awarded a Cultural Scholarship from the City of Gdańsk and co-curated the Port Art Residency at the MEWKA Foundation.
