Ute Friederike Schernau
Germany
A visual artist and photographer trained in photography, with a diploma from a university of applied sciences and a formative period in fine arts that strongly shaped her interest in the surface of the image. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in cities such as Brooklyn, Cologne, Munich, Hamburg, and Berlin. Her practice focuses on portraiture and productions that explore themes of naturalness and sustainability. Alongside her artistic work, she has developed an extensive editorial career, collaborating with leading publications such as The Guardian Weekend Magazine, Zeit Magazine, and Art Magazine. In her more recent work, the materiality of the image and its alteration through physical materials play an increasingly significant role. She has also developed long-term editorial projects, including a book focused on the topic of plastic created in collaboration with her children.
