Shaina Gates

Shaina Gates, an artist working in experimental photography and sculpture, blends geometric folding theories with photosensitive materials creating innovative 2D and 3D photograms on film and paper. She holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (2005), a MAT in Art Education (2008) and a MFA from the University of Pennsylvania (2016). Her work was included in the Center for Maine Contemporary Art’s Biennial (2023) and the New England Triennial (2022). She has presented several solo and 2-person exhibitions, most recently including a show at 3SArtspace in Portsmouth, NH, entitled TESTSET. In 2023, Gates was awarded a $25,000 Artist Advancement grant by the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, which will conclude in a large scale exhibition in 2024. She imparts her knowledge as a teacher at the University of New Hampshire and serves as a studio advisor in the MFA program at the Maine College of Art.
